Jumping Up: If you teach your dog always to greet both family and visitors by sitting, then you are well on the way to overcoming this problem. Housetraining: Most dogs want to be clean and only need to be taught the house rules to achieve this. Time spent here in the early days of owning a puppy, will amply repay your efforts in a very short time. Take your puppy outside at regular intervals to give him the opportunity to be clean and praise him, or give a titbit, when he performs in the right place. Be prepared to stay with him and not just leave him to his own devices in the garden. The same rules also apply to an older rescued dog as you can never be certain of his previous background or know what, if any, training he has had. Separation Anxiety: A dog needs to learn to spend time without your company. If he is anxious when left on his own, then this can result in him causing damage or fouling in the house when you are absent But the cause of the problem needs to be determined before it can be solved. We have leaflets available on these and other subjects which you may find helpful. |
